A simple and cost-effective way to ensure that PCs and peripherals are always turned off when not in use.
The Energy Guardian PC module is an easy way to save money by ensuring that PCs and other office equipment are always switched off at the end of the working day.
The Desktop Agent software allows you to set times when the PC would normally not be in use - e.g. after 6pm and at weekends. At your chosen time, the Agent will begin a countdown to shut down the PC, first saving any open documents. This can of course be over-ridden if the user is still at work.
Once the PC has been turned off, either manually or by the Agent, the Powerdown Strip automatically cuts power to its four peripheral sockets. You can connect devices like the PC's monitor, a printer or photocopier, to ensure that they are never left on standby, wasting energy, when employees leave for the night or weekend.
Optionally, the Desktop Agent can also be linked in to Energy Guardian Energy Manager Online - allowing you to view PC usage across an organisation. It will show you where PCs were left running, the associated costs and the savings made by using the PC Power Off solution. It also allows you to remotely switch a PC or group of PCs on/off, and to save time by setting automatic controls for multiple computers at the same time.
PCs consume on average about 120W when running. The Desktop Agent activates a computer’s hibernate mode, so that the user’s work is saved but the PC powers down to less than 10W on average. Ensuring that all of an organisation’s PCs are powered down every night will easily save in a year more than the solution costs to install.
